Interim Executive Director’s Message – Black History Month 2025

Dear Black CAP Staff, Volunteers, and Community Members,

As we welcome Black History Month 2025, I am honored to reflect with you on this year’s powerful theme: “Black Legacy and Leadership: Celebrating Canadian History and Uplifting Future Generations.” This theme calls us to honor the deep roots of Black Canadian history, recognize the leadership that has shaped our communities, and reaffirm our role in building a future where every generation thrives.

At Black CAP, our work is woven into the fabric of this legacy. Every day, through our advocacy, programs, and partnerships, we stand on the shoulders of those who came before us—visionaries who fought for justice, equity, and dignity. Their courage laid the foundation upon which we continue to build, creating spaces where Black lives are not only protected but celebrated.

Our African Caribbean and Black communities are as diverse as they are resilient. From those whose histories span centuries on these Indigenous lands to those who have more recently made Canada home, we are united by a shared commitment to health, empowerment, and justice. Black CAP’s mission reflects this unity. Through our dedication to our ACB communities, we are not just responding to today’s needs—we are shaping tomorrow’s legacy.

Let us remember that our work is more than service; it is an act of resistance, a declaration of worth, and a beacon of hope. Every conversation we have, every program we deliver, every life we touch reinforces the truth that All Black People’s lives are important, Black voices are important, and Black leadership is important.

This month, as we celebrate Black history, let’s also celebrate ourselves—the staff, volunteers, and community members who are making history every day through our commitment, resilience, and love for our people. Together, we are not only honoring the past but uplifting future generations who will inherit the world we are shaping right now.

Thank you for your dedication, your passion, and your belief in the transformative power of our work. May this Black History Month inspire us to continue leading with purpose, rooted in the rich legacy of those who came before us and driven by the promise of those yet to come.

In solidarity and gratitude,

Elizabeth Mutinda
